Women who are inactive and sitting too much easily
catch diabetes.
According to research of British
scientists, women who spend more than 7 hours a day sitting have more risks of
type 2 diabetes than women who do exercises. This research is carried out by
scientist from Leicester University (England). There were 505 male and female
participants who were over 59 years old and took blood examination. The woman
said that they sat 4-7 hours a day. It was 4-8 hours a day in the men group.
The result showed that in the blood of women who sat much, the level of
chemicals points out the development of diabetes.
In
the comparison to men, women have to face with the more negative influences of
the sedentary habit than men do.
Besides, the participants were also asked
to take another test in order to measure the level of chemical in blood and
find out the connection between the levels of chemicals in blood and diabetes
development.
The result was women who spent the longest
hours sitting had a high level of insulin in blood, a hormone that helps
control the level of blood sugar in the body. The increase in the level of
insulin shows that their body are about to resist the hormone and the diabetes
start to develop.
Women
who spent the longest hours sitting had a high level of insulin in blood.
However, that result wasn’t right to the
group of men. Therefore, scientist believes that in comparison to men, women
have to face more negative influences of the sedentary habit. Researchers think
that the differences between women and men about the problem is due to the fact
that women eat more snacks while sitting than men do, or that men often take
part in activities that improves the health at different points of time compared
to women.
Practically, there’re many type-2-diabetes
patients who don’t know that they are having it because they don’t recognize
the symptoms of the disease. The symptoms are tiredness, frequent thirst and
urination, recurrent yeast infection and long-healing wound.
The researchers claim that this research is
aimed to provide more new evidence showing the limit of sitting time, despite
the physical activities, can cause bad effects on the insulin-resistance state
and on the low-level and chronic inflammation in women.
Signs of type 2 diabetes
Frequent thirst and urination: When the
excess amount of sugar remains in blood, the liquid is gathered from tissues.
Frequent hunger: If there’s not enough
insulin to transfer sugar to cells, muscles and other organs of yours will run
out of energy, which causes intense hunger.
Fatigue: If the cells of your body are
lacking in sugar, you can become tired and irritable.
Blurred vision: If the level of blood sugar
is high, liquid can be taken from your eyes, which affects the abilities to
focus and have clear view of the eyes.
People who have diabetes also have wounds,
ulcers and infections regularly. Those injuries take long time to heal because
the type 2 diabetes affects the abilities to heal the wound and fight against
the infection.
One
of type-2 diabetes’s symptoms is acanthosis nigricans.
Besides, some patients who have type-2
diabetes have dark skin areas which are mainly found in the skin folds of the
armpits and neck. This state is called acanthosis nigricans which is a sign of
insulin resistance.
