Mumps can make men become azoic. Do women
have to suffer the same problem?
Mumps can cause orchitis complications that
lead to male infertility. How about female? Does the disease can effect on
women’s reproductive organs and cause infertility?
Can
Mumps Cause Female Infertility?
Mumps can occurs in any seasons of the
year, though, it occurs the most in spring and summer, especially the break
time between spring and summer. That’s the time the weather is hot and wet,
which is a good condition for the development of viruses and diseases like
mumps. People can have mumps no matter what age they are; however, the age at
which people have mumps the most is around 5-15 years old.
Mumps or viral inflammation of parotid
gland is an infectious disease caused by Paramyxo virus. The disease is
transmitted directly by respiratory tract or causing epidemics in children and
teenagers.
The virus enters the body in the incubation
(about 12 – 15 days) increase the upper respiratory epithelium and cervical
lymphatic system. From there, the viruses go to other organs of the body by
blood.
Mumps
can happen to anyone, in any season of a year.
The mump symptoms are fever, fatigue,
headache, swelling and pain in one or many salivary glands. The disease is
benign, though, it can cause complications. Although mumps are not very common
in human, they cause many complications, especially to children. The popular
complications are pancreatitis, neuritis, myocarditis, ovaritis and orchitis.
Orchitis caused by mumps is a popular
complication in men after puberty. As soon as the mump viruses enter testicles,
they damage the testicular parenchyma and sperm tube, infiltrate the
perivascular interstitial lymphocytes. The inflammation and edema process in
testicular parenchyma make the pressure in testicles increase. This is the
reason of testicular atrophy. Besides, the orchitis caused by mumps can reduce
the testicular responsiveness of the hormonal stimulation of the pituitary
glands and produce sperm antibodies.
Orchitis
caused by mumps is a popular complication in men after puberty.
To women, without healthy diets, mumps can
cause complications to reproductive organs, such as ovaritis. However, the
ovaritis rate in women is lower than the orchitis rate in men, which dues to
the differences between the compositions of egg cells and the cell structure of
the parotid gland.
In males, the ones that have mumps after
puberty are accounted for 20-35% having orchitis while in women, it’s only 7%
having ovaritis. If a woman has ovaritis because of mumps, her reproductive
ability is reduced. That’s because at that time, the viruses attack the ovary
and fluid-secreting cells, not the egg-producing cells. If a man has orchitis
and it occurs to both of his testicles, he will be azoic.
Vaccination
is the best choice to prevent mumps.
Actually, mump is benign; it’s only a
infectious disease. However, if we don’t know the way to treat it, it can cause
complications. To prevent complications of the mumps, you need:
·
To have a sensible regimen, provide energy to
the body in order to increase resistance.
·
To completely avoid activities like running. The
more activities we have, the more fast the viruses spread.
