Women

All women are different, and a woman can even experience different things for each different pregnancy. With the first time of pregnancy, a woman can feel that libido doesn’t return in months after delivery, while after giving birth to the second baby, she’s more than ready to have sex earlier, regardless of feeding her baby. However, feeding babies can have certain affection to the libido of women, and the affection can last for months after they’re done with breastfeeding.

Feeding your baby doesn’t increase the libido

While some women can have increased libido when they’re breastfeeding their baby, in general, breastfeeding normally reduce libido rather than increase it. There’re many ways to improve this, but women usually feel that they have less libido when breastfeeding their baby.

Why breastfeeding baby cause libido loss?

Feeding your baby reduce the amount of estrogen you produce, according to experts. Estrogen helps to keep the vagina wet and flexible, so when you lack estrogen, you can feel that sex become a little uncomfortable. And if sex is uncomfortable, you have fewer chance of desiring it. During breastfeeding, your body creates more prolactin, a kind of hormone which represses your sexual desire. At the same time, you’re producing less testosterone, which is a male hormone but also be responsible for sexual desire in women, generally. In short, the hormones are destroying your libido. Besides, you may be exhausted as the physical demand in feeding your baby and the emotional fatigue for nursing a baby, not to mention the lack of sleep. Those are not a good combination for a healthy sex life, temporary at least.

How long will libido reduction last?

To some women, sexual desire will return to its normal status when breastfeeding is over. However, in some other cases, it can last longer. A health website advises that to some women, sexual desire doesn’t come back for several months after women have finished breastfeeding. In some rare cases, it can take up to one year for the weaning women to get back to her normal sexual desire.

Increase libido while breastfeeding

If you have problem finding your sexual desire, try to set up familiarity with your husband in other ways, such as taking a bath together or massaging each other. Spend time together, although that means having a candlelight dinner at home once a week after the baby has slept. If possible, spend some time together without the baby so that you can go out for a date, take a walk or even go shopping. When having sex, take it slow and use lubricant if necessary to make you feel more comfortable.
