Pregnancy is full of new experiences and worries. Expectant moms go through 9 months to avoid specific foods and medications and incorporate new habits to keep their babies safe and healthy. That caution does not end when the baby is born. It’s difficult to know what you need to take proper care for your newborn, but there are essential things in the first few months of parenting.

Car seat

Car seat

The hospital will not let you bring your newborn home without the car seat installed properly in your car. You’d better buy a new car seat because the old seats may not meet current safety requirements. The car seats for newborn are removable seats with an adjustable strap that allow you to carry your baby in a convenient way without bringing her out of the seat.

Sleeping area

A bassinet

Newborns sleep most of the time, so you will need somewhere to put your baby down. This means a crib and mattress, but there are available alternatives including a bassinet, playpen, and so on. Whatever you choose, make sure it meets the current safety requirements, and do not put anything in or near the area that could hurt your baby.

Clothes

People like shopping for babies, and clothes are popular gifts. The one-piece clothes are very popular and easy to replace when diaper is dirty or your little angel spits up. Find the soft, easy to wear and easy to take off clothes with many different sizes. Babies grow rapidly and before you know it your little angel did not fit into clothes for newborn anymore.

Health, safety and care

Sometimes think of all the daily necessary things is very difficult, especially if this is your first baby. You will need things necessary for health such as first aid kit and thermometer. These safety items include a baby monitor, smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector that are properly installed in or near the baby’s room. Baby care and bath items include soap, nail clippers and talcum powder for the baby's skin.

Diapers

Diapers

You can use disposable diapers or cloth diapers, but make sure you have plenty of diapers on hand when the baby is born. You have to change diapers many times in newborn phase, and you will not want to run out of diapers at midnight. If you choose disposable diapers, you should have at least a pack of large size diapers ready for the moment your baby suddenly grows too quickly. For those who use cloth diapers, keep at least a pack of disposable diapers on hand in case of emergency.

Feeding accessories

Like diapers, choosing breastfeeding or bottle feeding is personal choice. However, regardless of which you choose, you must have bottles and nipples to use with formula or expressed breast milk. A breast pump is necessary to express breast milk for later feeding, or allow others to feed the baby and mothers to rest.
